District says cannot take action without a court order, all candidates on ballot notified
Rocky Boy Schools has reported that a box of unopened and uncounted ballots from the May 2021 school board election has been discovered.
A release issued by district Superintendent Voyd St. Pierre said the former district clerk discovered during the summer the box of ballots.
After seeking advise from the Hill County attorney, the Montana secretary of state and its own legal counsel, the district “has determined that it cannot disturb the contents of its election materials, or the recently found ballots, without a court order,” the release said. The district will comply with any directives given to it as a result of legal proceedings, it said.
The release said all of the candidates on the ballot in question have been notified about the unopened ballots and are directed to contact the superintendent’s office if they have any questions.
