Hidden in plain sight
You know, Lord, it's been a long time ago, but just thinking about it as we watch the falling leaves, brought back some special memories when we were on a trip visiting kin, out of state. Several of us decided to go walking through the woods near their home. We were constantly amazed at the amount of life that filled the forest. At that time of year, we watched birds busily tending to their nest. Branches and vines were woven in intricate patterns. Deer and other wildlife lounged in the cool safety of the shadows, hidden in plain sight, but we "spied" them anyway; that scene did remind us of "home."
Some other folks were also walking through the woods, they weren't too far from us, but they were hurrying along - we bet that they missed the details that we all saw. But one with a discerning eye could appreciate the complex layers of Your Creation, Lord.
As we chatted, we thought about our communities and Your creative handiwork that is evident in the rich, diverse network of people all around us. Oh Lord, You have made us all different to be sure: men and women of many races, languages, countries of origin and even social status. Yet, while those difference often become defining characteristics, our real hope is found in our one similarity - and that is that we are all children of the same loving God. Just as "the heavens declare the glory of God," so should we.
The small group of us so enjoyed that walk through the woods, seeing so many "different" things that really were hidden in plain sight. Friend, "Tricia" said we should try to remember Psalm 19:1 "the marvelous display of His craftsmanship." And that we should ask You to help us see with our hearts more that with our eyes. Thank You, Lord.
Love, Mara
