BOX ELDER — Representatives of The Chippewa Cree Tribe and Stone Child College leaders said they are welcoming Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia of Texas to the Rocky Boy’s Reservation today and Tuesday to review the college’s epidemiology research and exchange ideas on public health and good governance issues.
Garcia represents the residents of Harris County Precinct 2, a majority-minority district encompassing the city of Houston well-known for its multi-ethnic and multi-racial population. Harris County is home to more than 52,000 indigenous people. Located along the upper Texas Gulf Coast, it is the most-populous county in Texas and third-most-populous in the United States. Prior to his election as Commissioner in 2018, Garcia served as Harris County sheriff, a city of Houston council lmember and a Houston Police officer.
“We are so excited for the opportunity to share our ideas and experiences with Commissioner Garcia,” said Cory Sangrey-Billy, president of the public tribal land grant college. “As an institution, Stone Child College serves the needs of indigenous and first nations peoples and all Montanans. We welcome the opportunity to showcase our innovative approach to public health with others around the country.”
