Hi-Line Football Roundup
The Fort Benton 8-man football team had been having its way so far this fall with an undefeated start to the season. But this past Friday night, the Longhorns faced their toughest challenge when they played Simms on the road. While the Longhorns put up a fight, they lost to Simms, 41-29, for their first loss of the season.
After they fell behind 9-0 in the first quarter, the Longhorns exploded in the second quarter. Colter Ball got Fort Benton on the scoreboard with a nine-yard touchdown run. However, Simms responded with a touchdown of its own to extend its lead to 16-6.
The Longhorns did not let the deficit deter them as they scored 14 straight points to end the half. Fort Benton's running game continued to lead the offense as Jeremiah Little ran for a 43-yard score. Trevor O'Hara then caught a touchdown pass from Morgan Axtman to give the Longhorns a 20-16 lead at the half. The Longhorns then scored again on the ground in the third quarter to push their lead to 29-16.
However, Fort Benton could not hold onto the lead. Over the last few quarters, the Tigers got their ground game going with three touchdowns to take the lead. The Simms defense also shut down the Longhorns as Fort Benton did not score in the final quarter.
With the loss, Fort Benton finished the regular season 5-1. The Longhorns will have a rematch with Simms this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Fort Benton. The game will determine playoff seeding as the winner will be the no. 1 seed from the 8-Man Northern Division in the playoffs.
