Havre Elks Lodge #1201 is holding a Membership Open House for everyone in Hill and Blaine counties and Chouteau County south to Big Sandy Friday 5:30-8 p.m. with snacks, coffee and lemonade at the lodge at 321 Second St.
“The open house is to promote membership, for people to come talk to members and see what the Elks Lodge is all about,” member Linda Hoover said.
Primarily, the lodge holds activities for youth, veterans and the community, she added.
With a membership of more than 200 strong, the Elks Lodge holds many events within their region, including a youth soccer shoot and the annual Hoop Shoot, that is part of the national competition for youth. They also hold an annual bake sale to raise money to buy dictionaries for third graders.
For veterans, members assist with the annual Veterans Stand Down and organize their annual Veteran’s Giving Tree, which a type of adopt-a-veteran program for the community to help veterans at Christmas.
They also have annual community events like a spaghetti dinner, a Mother’s Day dinner and a bingo fundraiser, and their vendor events provide venues for local crafters and home-based sellers to sell their goods.
The Elks Lodge, Hoover said, works to help the community where they can.
