James Frank Patera was born July 24, 1939, in Havre, MT to Anton and Ida Chagnon Patera. He was raised on a farm near Simpson, MT. He attended grade school at Spring Coulee school near Simpson and Havre High School where he graduated in 1956. He then went to electrician's school in Denver, CO.
Jim joined the Navy in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1960. After leaving the Navy, he pursued a career as an electrician until retirement. Jim enjoyed motorcycles and motocross racing. Jim was active in Washington state politics and his electrician's union.
Jim passed away September 22, 2021 of natural caused in Puyallup, Washington. He is survived by his son Curtis (Kim) Patera of Puyallup, Washington; grandchildren Owen and Sarah Patera, and siblings Carolyn Stremcha of Great Falls, MT, and Robert Patera of Havre.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Antin and Ida Patera and brother Paul Patera.
A funeral service and military burial will be held October 11, 2021, at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
