Snug in Mama's arms
You know, Lord, big, little, old or young, sometimes we get frightened right out of our socks and we want our mama. We always felt safe when we could snuggle in mama's arms. Watching tiny "Tatiana" struggling to walk, a counter blocking her view; we smiled as she turned and ran as best as she could, back into the safety of her mama's arms.
Another little girl was "lost" - her mama was at work, but she knew that Nana lived up the hill from her, so, slipping out of her house, barefooted and in her nightdress, she ran across the prairie grass, up the hill; reaching up high, the little 4-year-old rang the doorbell; she felt protected and safe in Nana and Tata's arms.
Thunderstorms are frightening. Heat storms with great ferocity blew through our area when we were kids on the ranch. Thunder rattled the panes in the windows; our house seemingly leaned into the wind; we could almost imagine the sizzle of the fast furious lightning strikes. Did that frighten us? You'd better believe it. Mama never acted afraid - she was our security; we ran to her, snuggled in her arms, she was our haven of protection.
Frightened baby animals, bunnies, kitties, probably baby calves, and lambs, too, run to their mama's. Baby chicks and little birds run to their mamas. We possibly all have seen baby animals do that - they feel protected, once they are with Mama.
We never out-grow our need for someone to run to, and there You are, Lord, Your promise to "help" us is: Psalm121, Verses 1 and 2: "I will lift up my eyes to the hills - from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."
Thank You, Lord, that You neither slumber or sleep, that You are our keeper, 24/7.
Love, Mara
