Golf Association presents award to health care foundation

From Northern Montana Health Care

The Havre Women's Golf Association recently awarded the Northern Montana Health Care Foundation with a check for $48,900. This was the total proceeds from their 2021 "Golfing for a Cure" Tournament and will go toward the Havre Women's Golf Association Assistance Fund.

2021 marks the 16th Annual Golf Tournament that the Havre Women's Golf Association has held, with the exception of 2020. Originally it was created to help the Hi-Line community members who suffered from breast cancer but has now grown to encompass all cancer diagnoses. A fun day of golfing - with a few idiosyncrasies - the tournament experienced its best year ever in the 2021 tournament.

In 2016 the Havre Women's Golf Association partnered with the Northern Montana Health Care Foundation to create the Havre Women's Golf Association Assistance Fund. The fund is managed by NMHCF and awards $500 to cancer patients who apply.

"While there are other funds available for folks needing to travel for medical issues, this fund was created so that the monies awarded could be used however the patient needs them" said Christen Obresley, executive director of NMHCF. "Whether it was for wigs, travel - whatever the patient needs, it's up to their discretion. Being able to assist Hi-line community cancer patients in this way is truly amazing."

Created in 1986, the Northern Montana Health Care Foundation is the fundraising arm of Northern Montana Health Care. It manages several funds that assist Hi-line residents, including the Havre Women's Golf Association Assistance Fund. Applications for assistance can be found at http://www.nmhcare.org/foundation/projects . Applicants are awarded $500 per calendar year for assistance.
