Viking Harvest Farmers Market set at Great Northern Fairgrounds

The Great Northern Fairgrounds is trying something new this fall, hosting the Viking Harvest Farmers Market at the fairgrounds Saturday, which is growing into an all afternoon and evening event.

Scheduled for 1 to 9 p.m., or later if the crowds, music and vendors want to continue longer into the night, fairgrounds Secretary Anita Stevenson said.

The farmers market will include the Montana State University-Northern viking and scone food stands, Bear Paw Volunteer Fire Department selling “tater pigs,” produce stands from two Hutterite colonies, snow cones and canned foods, and several craft vendors selling items that include wood art, knitted and crocheted goods and hand sewn products.

A show and shine will have on display automobiles and motorcycles that anyone in the public is invited to bring to the fairgrounds with no entry fee. The bounce houses will be there for youth to play on, and Havre High cheerleaders will offer face painting, as well.

Three musical acts will be entertaining the crowds, including Shovels and Shotguns, Hunchback Moon and Derek Hann. Stevenson said a fourth musical act has said they will be there, but by Tuesday hadn’t confirmed.

Fresno Tavern will be catering refreshments.

Havre High School Class of 1972 will be holding their get-together there starting at 2 p.m.

Attendance at the inaugural Viking Harvest Farmers Market is free, and it’s open to everyone.
