Conn was born on November 26, 1942, in Great Falls to Ilert and Evelyn (Ramberg) Hellebust. He was raised in Havre and on the family farm north of Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1961. Conn went on to obtain his bachelor's degree in education in 1966 from Northern Montana College.

He married Debra Dees on December 20, 1970, in Kremlin, and the couple moved to the Hellebust farm, where they had three wonderful children. Conn farmed, and he also worked at the Burlington Northern Diesel Shop and later in the yard for many years.

He was a warm, outgoing man who liked going for drives, loved local history, missed very few episodes of "Jeopardy!" and elk hunting in the breaks. He loved to laugh, and teasing his family and friends was a favorite pastime, as well.

Conn was preceded in death by his parents, Ilert (Kay) and Evelyn Hellebust.

He is survived by his wife, Debra of Havre; children, Kane (Becky) Hellebust of Missoula, Kory Hellebust of Brooklyn, NY, and Krista Komrosky of Havre; five grandchildren, Isis and Bruno Hellebust, Rhye Temple, and Rainee and Rhett Komrosky; brother, Gary (Shelley) Pfister of Lolo; sisters, Lynn Noyes of Bozeman, Zora (Tom) McMaster of Bellingham, WA, and Barb (Ron) Clark of Lakeside; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
