Campfires in established fire pits to be allowed in Hill County

Hill County will be staying in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions this week but has amended the restrictions to allow for campfires in established fire pits, effective 12:01 a.m. Friday.

Hill County Commissioner Mark Peterson announced this change on a weekly regional fire call Tuesday where he detailed the last week of fire activity in Hill County.

Peterson said the county issued one citation for burning debris which covered an acre and a half, as well as another citation for arson with the resulting fire burning two acres.

He said the county also lost two acres from a lighting-caused fire, and responded to a car fire that resulted in no injuries.

He said the city of Havre issued two tickets for illegal burning in the past week as well.

Blaine County Commissioner Frank DePriest said his county saw no fire activity over the past week.
