With just a week before the beginning of the Havre High football and volleyball seasons, both teams will need to get their players ready. While both teams have been practicing the past few weeks, they have not gotten a lot of game-like experience. But that will change this weekend as both teams will have their Blue/White games.
The Blue Pony football team will have their Blue/White game tonight at 6 p.m. at Blue Pony Stadium. With their season opener set for next Friday night at home against Sidney at 7 p.m., HHS head coach Ryan Gatch hopes his players use the game to prepare for the season.
"We want to go out and compete and execute on every single play," Gatch said. "We want to see guys going 100 miles and hour. It should be a lot of fun to be able to see that tomorrow because we've been having a lot of practices like that. So I want to continue to build on that."
The blue/white game will be split between two groups: the veterans and the newcomers. The veterans group will see the team's ones go against their twos while the newcomers will have the team's threes scrimmage against their fours.
The veterans group will go first tonight. Since many of his top players will start on both offense and defense, tonight's scrimmage will see the no. 1 offense go against the no. 2 defense. During the night, Gatch wants his units to get in about 40 to 60 plays in order to work on their execution.
"It'll be a controlled atmosphere. Be a good setting for our players to go out and keep increasing our continuity and keep working towards our offensive and defensive philosophies," Gatch said.
The HHS volleyball team will have their Blue/White match on Saturday morning at the Blue Pony Gymnasium. They will start at 9 a.m. with a match between junior high players. At 10:30 a.m., the varsity team will play the junior varsity team. With their season opening next Friday with a tournament in Sidney, HHS head coach Stephanie Huse hopes to use this match to get varsity ready.
The Blue/White football game starts tonight at 6 p.m. at Blue Pony Stadium and the Blue/White volleyball match begins on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
