Brock Elliot hopes to use summer league to prepare for high school basketball
Young basketball players from across the Hi-Line gathered for the Lights summer league at the Armory Gymnasium on the Montana State University-Northern campus this week. One player who went to the summer league was Chinook's Brock Elliot who hopes to use his time in the league to learn and improve as a basketball player.
"To be a better player than I was last year," said Elliot on his goal at the summer league.
Elliot is a freshman, so he will begin his high school playing career this fall. He expects to be named to the junior varsity team as a freshman, but his goal is to be a starting player.
Elliot will join the Chinook High School basketball program as his cousin Reese Elliot moves on from the program. During his high school career, Reese Elliot earned all-conference and all-state honors so Brock Elliot will have to work to live up to the Elliot name in Sugarbeeter basketball.
"I want to be as good as him," Brock Elliot said.
Other sports that Elliot participates in include football and swimming. He got into basketball because of his older brother, who also played high school basketball. He now just enjoys the game for how fun it is.
Elliot and his younger brother have been training at the Lights summer league this week. Elliot and the other league attendees have spent their time being trained by local basketball coaches such as MSU-N men's basketball coach Shawn Huse and Havre High boys' basketball head coach WaLynn Burgess.
In between his training, the Havre Daily News got the chance to ask Elliot a few questions to get to know the young basketball player better before he begins his high school career.
HDN: What do you love the most about basketball?
Elliot: "Scoring points. It's the best part."
HDN: Do you have any favorite hobbies outside of sports?
Elliot: "Skiing's pretty fun. There's a couple spots that are pretty fun."
HDN: What kind of music do you listen to?
Elliot: "Stuff that's on the radio I guess. I listen to 101.3 sometimes."
HDN: Do you have a favorite school subject?
Elliot: "I think I'm pretty good at math. Math is math but it's pretty fun."
HDN: Do you play any video games?
Elliot: "Some mobile games when I'm bored."
