The Montana State University-Northern rodeo team finally finished its season with the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming this past weekend. The best riders in the country participated in the rodeo and MSU-N qualified two riders for the event.
Senior Kassidy Williamson finished up her Northern career by placing 52nd in the goat tying competition. Her best round was her second go where she recorded a score of 10.4. She automatically qualified for the CNFR because of her position as the Big Sky student regional director.
Freshman Rope Three Iron finished his first year in Northern rodeo by placing 43rd in the team roping event at the CNFR. Along with his partner Alonzo Skunkcap of the University of Montana-Western, Three Iron qualified for the finals after winning the team roping event in the Big Sky region. On his team, Three Iron served as the header while Skunkcap was the heeler. Unfortunately, they were not able to rope a single calf during the event.
Over a hundred schools participated in Casper the past two weekends after last year’s CNFR was canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Montana State University girls’ team scored 590 total points to take first on the girls’ side. On the boys’ side, Clarendon College from Texas took first with 890 total points.
Some other notable riders at the CNFR include MSU’s Shelby and Paige Rasmussen, the daughters of world famous bullfighter Flint Rasmussen. In addition to his time in the rodeo, Flint Rasmussen should be known to Havre because he was born here and taught math at Havre High School.
His daughters carried on the family legacy of competing in rodeo at the CNFR. Both riders competed in breakaway roping and goat tying. Shelby Rasmussen finished 20th in the breakaway roping event and she took 51st in the goat tying competition. Paige Rasmussen finished 12th in the goat tying event and she took 48th in the breakaway roping competition.
