From Tee to Green
June is here and that means not only golf is in full swing, but also there’s plenty of tournament golf being played.
And after not being able to be held last season, the Golfing For a Cure Tournament made a triumphant return to Prairie Farms Golf Course last Saturday. A full slate of scramble teams — two women and two men — played 18 holes and had a ton of fun as usual. Congrats to the tournament winners, Valley Furniture No.1. The team was composed of Tom Adams, Mike Purkett, Judi Adams and Kim Purkett. Tilleman Motors took second. That team was made up of Greg Mosness, Mike Erickson, Renessa Gailand and Courtney Wendland. Prairie Farms was third overall. The squad was composed of Kelly, Lisa, Justin and Shelbi Darlington.
Of course, good golf wasn’t the only thing that was special about the Golfing For a Cure Tourney. It, as always, is for a great cause, and this year’s event raised plenty of money for local cancer patients.
So, as someone whose family has been touched by cancer, I can’t thank the Havre Women’s Golf Association, and everybody who pitches in to make this tournament the great event that it is. Thank you all, and we’ll see you next June.
Tournaments meanwhile, continue on. This Saturday is the Northern Scramble at Prairie Farms, while Beaver Creek Golf Course recently held the Second Annual Chester Swim Team Tournament, and has the annual Havre Wrestling Club Tournament coming in a couple of weeks.

After a rough weather week, league golf came back with a vengeance last week as temperatures soared. In men’s league at Prairie Farms last Tuesday, BA Ranch earned high-team honors, while Jeff Jensen shot a 2-under 34 for low gross, and Ken Wagner, Pete Stiffarm and Josh Habets all netted 33 to share low net.
Last Wednesday night saw Master Sports take high team, while Jeremy Jensen shot 35 for low gross, and Ryan Bakke was low net with a 32.
In women’s league last Thursday night at Prairie Farms, Ali Ward shot an excellent 39 for low gross, while Chandra Moomey and Renessa Gailand were low net with a 30. Double R was high team with 24 points. Ward, Tammy Boles, Paige Henderson and Angela Nyberg composed the team.
And at men’s league at BCGC last Thursday night, Triangle scored 50 points to take high-team honors, while CJ Evans and Paul Jensen each shot 37 to share low gross. Neal Rosette was low net with a 29.
