Obituary - Raymond P. Nelson

Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Raymond P. Nelson of Goose Creek, SC, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at age 74.

Raymond was born September 6, 1946, in Whitefish Montana to Roy V. and Nora C. Nelson.

May 25, 1968, he married Nancy Mae Abrams in East Providence, RI. They raised two sons, Michael David of Summerville, SC, and Dennis Patrick of Bladenboro, NC.

As a master chief engineman, Raymond retired in 1993 from the U.S. Navy with 26 years of service. He then worked part time and was a faithful member of the VFW Post 9281 in Byson City, NC. In May of 2020, they returned to their home in Goose Creek, SC.

Raymond enjoyed fishing and hunting with his two surviving brothers, Michael Nelson (Deb) of Sequim, WA, and Greg Nelson (Kathy) of Belgrade, Montana, and enjoyed sharing this hobby with his two sons. Ray was also an avid traveler and enjoyed vacationing with his wife, sons and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy V. Nelson of Havre, Montana.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy; his two brothers and two sons, Michael D. (Gay) Nelson and Dennis P. (Greta) Nelson; five grandchildren, Jessi, Sam, Jennifer, Sara and Dillon Nelson, and one great-grandchild, Wesley R. White.

A graveside memorial will be held Saturday, May 1st, 2021, at Carolina Memorial Gardens on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, SC, at 10 a.m.
