Local wrestlers earn Blewett north- central Montana wrestling scholarships

Alexander “Zander” Blewett III has awarded $2,000 in scholarships to the top student athlete wrestlers in north-central Montana.

Michael Chagnon of Havre High School won two state championships. He earned a 3.8 GPA and will study engineering at some yet to be determined four year college.

Rebecca Stroh of Chinook High School was the first female wrestler in Montana history to place at the B/C boy’s state wrestling tournament. She went on to place second this year in the first Montana state girls wrestling tournament. She earned a 3.5 GPA and plans to pursue a degree in agronomy at Montana State University.

Hayden Axtman of Fort Benton High School was a state placer who earned a 3.22 GPA. He will study pre-med at Montana State University.

Liam Swanson of Great Falls High also won one of the scholarships. Swanson won a state championship this year and placed third as a junior. He earned a 3.5 GPA and intends to wrestle at University of Providence.

The $500 scholarships are awarded to the top wrestler from up to four schools in north-central Montana who have displayed the best combined qualities of wrestling and academic achievement. Students are eligible from schools in Augusta, Cascade, Chester-Joplin-Inverness, Chinook, Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank, Fort Benton, Great Falls, Havre, Highwood, Shelby and Valier.

Blewett also offers a statewide Blewett Wrestling Scholarship that provides three $1,000 scholarships to the top student/wrestlers around the state of Montana for Classes AA, A, and B/C.
