Gary Joe Sargent of Hudson, Ohio, age 89, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Elinor (nee Hagen) Sargent, and his sister Charlotte Peterson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Judy (nee Elliott); his loving children, Deborah Sargent, son-in-law Dale Alverson, Jeri (Charles) Andrus, Frederick (Judy) Sargent, and Jeffrey (Thea) Sargent; cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Aaron), Dustin (Jess), Eric (Crystal), Bradley, Dason, Katy (Jeffrey), Chase (Lauren), Jonathon, Derek, Christopher (Ashley), Robert, and Caleigh; his dear great-grandchildren, Cooper, Chloe, Colette, and Clayton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gary was born and raised in Montana. Always immensely proud of his roots, Gary grew up in the Tip Top Cafe his parents owned, where he learned to deeply respect and communicate with everyone he encountered - one of his many remarkable and most memorable gifts. During those formative years, Gary was an all-star athlete and found the love of his life at the age of 17.
Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
After serving, he graduated from the University of Denver in 1957. Gary then worked for United Airlines for the next 31 years - starting as a supervisor in L.A. and retiring as a vice president in D.C.
In retirement, Gary was passionate about traveling with Judy, playing golf and gin, watching all sports, involvement with his church - but his most cherished time was with his family. Friends will be received for a memorial gathering from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 19 E. Main Street (On the square), Hudson, OH 44236.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gary's memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, 21 Aurora St., Hudson, OH 44236.
