Drought workshop to be held April 28 at the 4-H Chuckwagon

Montana State University Ranch Management Systems Team, in collaboration with local MSU Extension agents, have put together a series of workshops to address potential strategies to reduce the effects of drought in 2021.

As of April 1, Hill County is classified as a D1 on the U.S. Drought Monitor. This means that Hill County is in a moderate drought for this time of year.

The 2021 Montana Drought Series has put together a tour of talks in five locations across the state where drought is most prominent.

The topics featured include Cattle Management During Drought, Range Conditions and Grazing During Drought, Forage Management Options During Drought and Nitrates, and Reproduction Strategies During Drought.

The speakers are all part of the MSU Ranch Management Systems Team and include Megan Van Emon, Ph.D., and Carla Sanford, Ph.D., beef cattle specialists, Jeff Mosley, Ph.D., range management specialist, and Hayes Goosey, Ph.D., forage specialist.

The series will start April 26 in Sidney, go to Miles City April 27, Havre April 28, Lewistown April 29 and it will finish up May 6 in Dillon.

The stop in Havre will be from 1-5 p.m. at the 4-H Chuckwagon, 1676 US HWY 2, Wednesday, April 28.
