Local Golf Report: Welcome to a brand new season

From Tee to Green

The weather is taking an ugly turn and you all can blame me. I started up the golf column last week, and since then, there hasn't been very many pleasant golf days.

Still, I'm happy to be writing the local golf report again, and, we all know, we're going to have some rough weather days even as we get the clubs out and start swinging again.

Still, golf is back, and it's exciting. It seemed like it was a long winter yet again, and I would be pretty naive to think the coronavirus had a little, or a lot, something to do with how long and dark the winter was. And while it's no doubt still going to snow some, and no question, it's going to be cold and windy, golf season is now here to stay and I couldn't be more excited.

For starters, the start to this golf season has already seemed so much more normal. At this point last year, courses weren't even open yet, and it wasn't because of the weather. No, it was because local courses were still working with local health departments, trying to figure out how best to operate during what was becoming a serious situation with the pandemic. And ultimately, it's this writer's opinion that, between our two local courses, they did an awesome job of making golf accessible and somewhat normal, while still taking into account everybody's safety. For me, last golf season, while certainly abnormal, was still very fun and was one of the few things that brought me happiness during what was otherwise an awful 2020.

Looking forward, though, we're in a much different place than we were last April, and that includes golf. We know so much more about the pandemic, and we know for a fact golf is extremely safe and something that has seemed to thrive during this madness. So between that fact, and the vaccines, I expect golf to even feel more normal this year than it did last, and that's an exciting thought.

Of course, there will also be changes and this golf season brings about a big one as Beaver Creek Golf Course has changed ownership. Heidi and Craig Miller recently purchased the grand old course, so keep an eye on BCGC Facebook page for updates.

League golf is also on the way. BCGC will have their league meeting tonight at the course, while men's league at Prairie Farms Golf Course is set to being April 27-28. And that brings me to the final point of this report.

I would once again ask all local courses and league secretaries to please email me any scores and information on leagues, tournament, aces and anything else going on at your course every Sunday prior to the next From Tee to Green. I want to make sure that all of your information, and all of the awesome things that happen at your course, from golf leagues to tournaments to special events to great rounds and more, make it into this column. That's what the local golf report is for, to put all of our golf stuff in the paper for everyone to read about. So never hesitate to send me anything and everything you might want published.

So with that said, welcome back golfers. Have a great season on the links.
