Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Grace Crantz, Havre High Tennis

Blue Pony Grace Crantz has come a long way in a relatively short time on the tennis court

With the return of spring sports after they were shut down in 2020, many Havre High student-athletes are getting the opportunity to compete again. One such athlete is junior Grace Crantz, a Blue Pony tennis player who is anticipating her return to the courts.

"I just want to have fun," Crantz said. "I'm just really looking forward to being back on the court and to play with everyone else because it's been a while."

Crantz has been playing tennis since her freshman year when her mom signed her up for it, even though she didn't originally want to play. Since then, she has grown to love tennis and competes in No. 1 doubles with friend and senior Talia Ralph. She has even helped recruit other students to come out for tennis.

"I just see if they're interested and then if they are, then I try to get as much information as I can from them to see if they actually do want to play or what they want to do," Crantz said.

Crantz is lookiung forward to this weekend's Havre Invitational, and her head coach George Ferguson is looking forward to seeing her continue the progress she's made.

"When Grace came in as a freshman she had never really played, and that's not unusual for our sport," Ferguson said. "But what has been so cool to see is how quickly she picked it up and even with missing last season, how good of a tennis player she's become. Grace is very good, she's very talented, and she's been so dedicated to our program. She's never missed anything we've done. She works really hard, she gets kids involved, she's a good leader. She's everything a coach could want in a player. And even though this is really just her second year, she's an outstanding player who's only going to get better."

Crantz participates in other activities outside of tennis. She competes on the HHS swim team and she is also the color guard for the HHS marching band, which she has been doing for the past three years.

Crantz and her fellow Blue Ponies will next compete at home in the Havre Invite this Friday and Saturday. Before she hits the court, the Havre Daily News got the opportunity to ask Crantz five questions.

HDN: What is your favorite tennis memory?

Crantz: "Just traveling on the bus and making some memories with the team."

HDN: Out of tennis, swim and flag, which is your favorite activity?

Crantz: "I don't think I could choose. I like them all individually. They're all pretty good."

HDN: How do you manage to do so many activities?

Crantz: "I just manage my time wisely and it's just like a waiting game to see what all of the schedules are like and then I go from there."

HDN: Do you have any favorite hobbies?

Crantz: "I like to bake. I like to cook. I like a lot of things but those are the main things."

HDN: What do you like to bake?

Crantz: "I like to bake cakes a lot. I decorate a lot of the cakes. Baked goods, muffins. My favorite muffin is banana chocolate chip. I make a pretty mean banana chocolate chip and that's about it."
