Aspen Giese, Fort Benton Basketball
Fort Benton senior Aspen Giese may have just saved her best for last. In the Longhorn’s march to their first-ever Class C state championship last weekend win Billings, Giese averaged 18 points per game, and scored 17 in the first round, 21 in the semifinals and 19 in the state title game win over North Country. Giese, a three-sport standout who will play basketball at MSU-Billings next fall, will be a four-time Class C All-State performer for the Longhorns, who made history Saturday night.
Kellen Detrick, Havre High Basketball
Kellen Detrick is headed to the University of Montana to play football for the vaunted Grizzlies. But he made sure his last high school basketball season was a big one. The Havre High senior averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game for the Blue Ponies, who won the Northeast A Conference this winter and came within a game of reaching the state tournament. Detrick, who was also a two-way Class A All-State performer in football this past fall, is also now a three-time All-State standout in hoops.
