Ice Hawks sweep Generals in Miles City

Havre hosts Helena this weekend

The Havre Ice Hawks are zeroing in on the state high school hockey tournament, but first, they had to get through their last two road games of the regular season.

The Ice Hawks were in Miles City this past weekend, where they swept the Generals.

Havre started the road trip strong with a 6-2 win Saturday night. Stephen Preputin, Jocelyn Staples and Tavish McLean all scored in the first period for the Ice Hawks, while Theron Peterson added a goal in the second to put Havre ahead 4-2. The Ice Hawks also dominated the third period as Kaine Black scored early and Preputin added an insurance goal late.

In the rematch Sunday, the Ice Hawks pulled out a 4-3 victory. Ciaran Courtnage got Havre on the board early with a goal on an assist from Connor Moomey. In the second, the Generals went ahead 2-1, before Tavish McLean answered to tie it 2-2, and Courtnage scored his second goal early in the third to put Havre up 3-2. The Generals tied the game with seven minutes to go, but just a few trips down the ice later, Stephen Preputin scored the game-winner for the Ice Hawks, with an assist from Courtnage, who had a huge game with two goals and two assists. Clara Holland also saved 10 of 13 Miles City shots as she and the Havre defense were outstanding.

The Ice Hawks are now 8-10 overall, and are preparing to wrap up the regular season with makeup games against Helena this weekend in the Havre Ice Dome.
