There's officially two signing days for college football, and the traditional February signing day came and went on Wednesday.
It was a big day for the Montana State University-Northern football program, as head coach Andrew Rolin announced 11 new signees to the Lights' program.
Several of the signings had already been announced, including a pair of local prep standouts in Chinook tight end Reese Elliot and Harlem wide receiver Andrew Rassmussen. That duo comes to Northern from close to home, which is always exciting, while Glasgow running back Jesse Lee (6-1, 205) is also a big signee for the Lights.
In all, Rolin announced five Montanans as part of the 2021 February class, including Florence defensive back Colby Kohlman (6-1, 200) and Eureka high school standout Cannan Smith (5-9, 175), who is transferring to Northern from Montana Western.
Six out-of-state gridders have also signed to play with the Lights.
On offense, Kamare Stephens (6-1, 180) a WR from Winter Haven, Florida, Devin Carmona (6-1, 230), a TE from Citrus Heights, California and Tyrese Rios (6-1, 215) a transfer from NCAA DII Central Washington all signed to play for the Lights, while Rolin also added Luke Triplett (6-2, 212) a linebacker from Orangevale, California and Johkyreian Shealey (5-10, 190) a DB from Ponte Vedra, Florida.
"I'm extremely excited about this class" Rolin said. "We knew it would be a smaller recruiting class due to great retention and an opportunity for our seniors to play another season in the fall, which allowed us to really focus on our needs moving forward. This is another group that is all in to our culture, values and direction of the program. Any great organization is made of great people, and these kids fit that mold."
