Blue Pony matmen win three duals at East Helena

The Havre High wrestling team brought a nice little dual streak into this weekend’s road trip to new Class A member East Helena. And the Ponies kept that streak going Friday night.

Havre wrestled the East Helena Vigilantes for the first time Friday, and the Ponies came away with a dominant, 54-12 win.

Carson Harris started things off at 113 pounds with a pin, while star senior Mick Chagnon did the same at 120. Jacob Kunz (132) and Riley Pleninger (138) added pins in the middle of the dual, while Landon Caplette (152) and Daniel Edmonds (170) finished things off with pins as well.

Things did get more challenging in Havre's dual with longtime rival Livingston Friday night, but the Ponies still came away with a 40-33 win.

Havre got a pair of early forfeits, but the Ponies had to rally late in the dual, starting with a pin from Kendall Pleninger at 145 pounds. That started a streak of four straight pins and five consecutive wins for the Ponies, as Tristian Stygles (152), Kale VanCampen (160) and Orion Thivierge (170) got pins and Randy Tommerup picked up a major at 182 to seal the dual.

The Ponies returned to the mats at East Helena Saturday, where they dominated the Lockwood Lions, but fell in a tight dual to Laurel.

Against Lockwood, Havre won 54-21, with Chagnon getting a pin at 120, Dominic Perkins winning by pin at 126, Landon Caplette earning a pin at 160, Thivierge winning by fall at 182 and Tommerup doing the same at 205. Hunter Velk, Riley Pleninger, Kendall Pleninger and Mason Wilting all got forfeits, as well, in Havre’s first-ever dual against Lockwood.

The Ponies’ dual streak did come to an end in East Helena, though, as they fell to Laurel 38-32. Chagnon got a win by technical fall at 120, Riley and Kendall Pleninger both got pins, as did Thivierge at 170 and Tommerup at 182. VanCampen also won a close 8-6 decision at 160 for the Ponies, who were open at 103, 126 and 205.

With the postseason drawing nearer, Havre will stay on the road this weekend as the Ponies take on No. 1 Sidney and Glasgow in Sidney.
