The 2020-21 high school hockey season has reached crunch time for the Havre Ice Hawks, who earned a big road split this last weekend in Bozeman.
Saturday night, the Ice Hawks skated to a thrilling, 6-5 win over the Icedogs in Bozeman.
The Ice Hawks took a quick 2-0 lead on first-period goals by Tavish McLean and Jocelyn Staples, before the scoring got crazy in the second. Both teams scored three times in the second period, while Michael Emge, Jacob Herring and Theron Peterson found the back of the net, giving Havre a 5-4 lead. Herring then scored his second goal of the night early in the third to extend the lead to 6-4, and while Bozeman scored once more, Havre hung on for the victory.
Havre's defense was superb in the win, as the Ice Hawks allowed just 18 shots, with Clara Holland stopping 13 of them. McLean also tallied a game-high four points on the night.
Havre also played great defense in Sunday's rematch, but so did Bozeman for a 2-1 overtime victory.
The two teams skated to a scoreless first period, before the Icedogs struck a goal halfway through the second. Herring answered early in the third to tie the game at 1-1, and it remained that way until the Icedogs scored the game-winner :34 into the overtime. The Havre defense gave up just 13 shots on goal, with Holland making 11 saves, but Bozeman saved 28-of-29 shots in the Havre win.
The Ice Hawks are now 6-10 overall and will have a week off before traveling to Miles City for a pair of games Feb. 6-7.
