Hi-Line Girls BB: Bears knock off Class B power Wildcats

There's just one week left in January. That's hard to believe. And yet, the action in girls high school basketball is just heating up.

Last week started with the Box Elder girls knocking off the Harlem Wildcats in an exciting non-conference game in Harlem. The Bears edged the Class B Wildcats 61-56. Taya Trottier did score 23 points for Harlem in the loss. No stats for Box Elder were reported.

Thursday night, the Rocky Boy Morning Stars were back in action, but they fell short in a 54-47 loss to Great Falls Central.

The Morning Stars were hoping to bounce back Friday night, but in an 81-16 loss, they were no match for Class A Browning. Jour'Dai Coffee and Jayci Demontiney each had five points in the tough loss.

In the 9C Friday night, North Star edged Chinook 43-33, while Turner clobbered Big Sandy, 52-7. The Tornadoes started the game on a 24-1 run, and they held the Pioneers scoreless in the second and third quarters. Shyan Krass scored a game-high 20 points and Dakota Krass added 17 for Turner, while Lainey Terry scored four for Big Sandy. In the North Star game, the Knights got 10 points from Shayla Borlaug, while Hallie Neibauer scored 16 for Chinook.

Games between Fort Benton and CJI, and Hays-Lodge Pole and Box Elder were also canceled Friday night.

There were also more cancellations Saturday due to COVID-19. Big sandy and Hays-Lodge Pole didn't play and neither did Box Elder and CJI, or North Star and Turner. Harlem's game with Poplar was also announced as postponed.

Meanwhile, Saturday night also saw the Rocky Boy girls' struggles continue as the Morning Stars fell to Shelby 53-33. Rocky Boy opened the game with an 11-9 lead, but a 24-5 run in the third by the Coyotes was too much for the Morning Stars, who did get 12 points from Kirsten LaMere.

Back in the 9C Saturday night, Fort Benton remained on top with a 63-18 blowout at home over Chinook. The Longhorns opened on a 23-6 run and never looked back. Abby Clark led four Longhorns in double figures with 14 points, while Emerson Giese scored 12, Aspen Giese had 11 and Ashlee Wang chipped in with 10. Jade Cecrle had five points for the Beeters.
