Montana State University-Northern's Chase Short, top, is ranked No. 19 in the NAIA at 174 pounds. Short and the Lights made their season debut last month in Nebraska, and now they're getting ready for a home dual when the host arch rival Providence next Wednesday night in the Armory Gymnasium. The Lights, of veteran head coach Tyson Thivierge, updated their schedule this past week.
The Montana State University-Northern Lights will make their home debut on the wrestling mat next Wednesday night, against arch rival Providence.
Northern recently added several meets to its "fluid" 2021 schedule, including next Wednesday night's dual against the Argos. The Lights will also travel to a dual meet in Sioux City, Iowa, Jan. 13 and to Dickinson State Jan. 23, according to the schedule. Northern opened its season at the Concordia College Duals in Nebraska last month, where they went 4-0.
Northern begins January ranked No. 17 in the NAIA. The new NAIA Coaches Poll was released Thursday, where the Lights were tied with Vanguard University at No. 17. Grand View remains ranked No. 1.
Individually, Northern senior Isaac Bartel is ranked No. 1 at 197 pounds, while Nick Kunz, who was ranked No. 1 at 125 to start the season, is now No. 4 at 133. Chase Short is ranked No. 19 at 174 for the Lights, who have had a limited schedule.
Northern and Providence will meet for the first time Wednesday night in the Armory Gymnasium. The rematch will come Feb. 11 in Great Falls.
