Ice Hawks sweep Generals in the Havre Ice Dome

The Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team has had some exciting games recently, and they closed out 2020 with two more in the Havre Ice Dome.

This past weekend, the Ice Hawks swept the Miles City Generals with a 2-1 win on Friday night, and a 4-1 victory on Saturday.

Havre got its big weekend off to a good start with Friday night's win, which went to overtime. After a scoreless first, Miles City took a 1-0 lead in the second period, but at the 3:03 make of the third, Havre's Tavish McLean scored the equalizer on assists from Jacob Herring and Grant Karns on a power-play goal, sending the game into an extra frame. And in that overtime, Stephen Preputin scored the game-winner for the Ice Hawks when he netted a power play goal on an assist from Kaine Black.

In the win, Havre got 34 shots on goal, while Clara Holland was spectacular between the pipes, saving 18 of 19 Miles City shots.

Havre came back the next day and was again in a battle, but this time, the Ice Hawks pulled away from the Generals. The Ice Hawks ended up getting goals from Rhett Wertheimer, Ciaran Courtnage and Herring in the victory, while Holland was again really good in goal, as on the weekend, she allowed just two scores by the Generals.

The wins give Havre an overall record of 3-5 as the Ice Hawks head to Christmas break. The Ice Hawks are slated to start the new year with road games at the Great Falls Americans Jan. 2-3 in Great Falls.
