The CJI HIgh School Hawks speech team competed at the Choteau BC Meet Saturday.
Veteran competitors Emma Wickum and Cain Cole placed for the third meet in a row in their respective events.
Wickum, a four-year competitor in extemporaneous speaking, placed fourth.
Cole, another four-year competitor who is competing for the first year in memorized public address, tied for third place in his event but lost the tiebreaker and was awarded fourth place.
Martin Fulbright, a freshman, competing in only his third meet, scored two ones in preliminary rounds to make it to finals. Fulbright finished fourth place in informative speaking, his best finish of the young speech season.
Azeria McIntosh, a junior also competing in just her third speech meet, scored a one in her first preliminary round with her interpretation of an Emily Dickinson poem. McIntosh broke into semi-finals in spontaneous interpretation of literature.
As a team, the Hawks had their best performance of the 2020-2021 speech season, finishing third in Class C Speech behind Harlowton and Twin Bridges. All four Hawks earned points towards the team’s third-place points total. The Hawks take a break for the holidays before competing at the Three Forks B/C Invitational Jan. 9.
