In a series of unanimous votes, the Hill County Commission approved a resolution to amend Hill County Health Department’s budget, the appointment of a special deputy county attorney and holding a public hearing on a road abandonment.
The commission passed the resolution amending the health department’s budget to receive and disperse funds from a recent $20,000 Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant, which will be used to provide home visits and family support services to the people of Hill County.
Last week the commission voted to approve this amendment, but no resolution had been drafted, so they had to vote on it this week.
The commission also voted to approve the temporary appointment of a special deputy county attorney.
Hill County Attorney Karen Alley, who attended the meeting, said her office has a conflict of interest in an upcoming case, so she are reaching out to Liberty County Attorney Robert Padmos to handle the case in her place.
She said this kind of thing is not unusual and she is currently doing the same for Liberty County.
Hill County Commissioner Mike Wendland said no fees will be charged to the county for Padmos’s services, but all other expenses to the county will be paid as normal.
The commission also approved a public hearing for a road abandonment for Havre resident Ervin Shelstad.
Wendland said road abandonments require two public hearings and the first will be Dec. 31 at the commissioner’s office. Further details will be in a legal notice in Monday’s edition of the Havre Daily News.
Hill County Commissioner Diane McLean said a bid package for new security cameras in the courthouse is still in the works as well.
Wendland said the commission will have a normal weekly business meeting the day before Christmas, next Thursday.
