Snow hits the area with a vengeance

Multiple school closures today

Snowfall was a little later than predicted in this part of north-central Montana, but when it started to fall Saturday night it fell with a vengeance, leading to major road and street issues and closing most schools in the region.

The snowfall had stopped by the time the sun came up, but the region - and the state - was buried in snow over the two-day snowfall.

And schools in the region closed and limited services, with Havre going to its remote learning day today and planning to hold classes for its A group students Friday, CJI in Chester, Chinook and Big Sandy closing school, Harlem holding a snow day and canceling meal preparations and deliveries, Rocky Boy holding virtual tutoring only.

North Star Schools delaying busing and the opening of its buildings in both Rudyard and Gildford by two hours.

Hays Lodge Pole Schools was holding distanced learning classes today and planning parent teacher conferences for later in the week and no lunches would be available for students or staff, the district said in a Facebook post.

No one answered calls made to the Turner School District.

The weather had turned sunny but chilly by this morning in most of the region, with a chance of some snow and continued cold temperatures in the near future.

National Weather Service still had a winter weather advisory in effect for Blaine County through 11 a.m., with a prediction of decreasing clouds and a low for the day predicted from 1 degree in Harlem to 9 above in the southeast corner of the county.

Lows are expected to be in the single digits in the rest of the area to low teens near Big Sandy, with highs Tuesday predicted to be in the low 30s Tuesday with a chance of snow in areas Tuesday and a chance of snow Tuesday night.

Snow is not expected for the rest of the week in this area and highs are expected to creep into the 30s by the weekend, with lows in the single digits to teens, with a chance of some below-zero temperatures Wednesday.
