2020 national Election Day is today

Havre Daily News staff

Today is the last day in a long, drawn-out vitriolic election.

All votes in Montana need to be turned in by 8 p.m. today.

Normal polling places are not open for voting in most counties in Montana, although voters wishing to vote in person can do so at their county clerk and recorder’s offices and official ballot drop-off places have been put in place in some counties, where filled-out ballots that were mailed to the voters can be dropped off.

Late registration cannot be done and ballots will not be issued in the drop-off locations in Hill County, but can only be done at the clerk and recorder’s office.

The governor gave counties the option to do an all-mail ballot to allow people to avoid potential exposure to COVID-19 at the polls.

Blaine, Hill and Liberty County all chose to do all-mail ballots with mailed the ballots out Oct. 9.

Chouteau County is holding a traditional polling place election.

The ballots must be received in the election office no later than 8 p.m. today.

Ballots mailed today will not be in the election offices in time to be counted.

People who have not returned their ballots are urged to go in person to their election office or available drop-off locations to return their completed ballots.

In Hill County, drop-off locations are planned to be open to 8 p.m. at:

Hill County Clerk and Recorders Office, 315 Fourth St., Havre.

HRDC Fireside Room, 2229 Fifth Ave., Havre.

Hi-Line Community Center, 502 First St., Hingham.

Box Elder School, back entrance, 205 Main St., Box Elder.

Stone Child College, Jon “Cubby” Morsette Vo-Tech Building, 8294 Upper Box Elder Road.

Late registration ended Monday today at noon but started again today with people able to late register at their clerk and recorder’s office and receive and fill out their ballots there.
