General Election is Tuesday

Havre Daily News staff

The General Election is drawing to a close, with all votes in Montana needing to be turned in by 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Normal polling places are not open for voting in most counties in Montana, although voters wishing to vote in person can do so at their county clerk and recorder’s offices and official ballot drop-off places have been put in place in some counties where filled-out ballots that were mailed to the voters can be dropped off.

The governor gave counties the option to do an all-mail ballot to allow people to avoid potential exposure to COVID-19 at the polls.

Blaine, Hill and Liberty County all chose to do all-mail ballots, and mailed the ballots out Oct. 9.

Chouteau County is holding a traditional polling place election.

The ballots must be received in the election office no later than 8 p.m. Tuesday. Tuesday or earlier postmarks will not validate ballots received by the election office after Tuesday.

People who have not returned their ballots are urged to go in person to their election office or available drop-off locations to return their completed ballots.

In Hill County, drop-off locations are :

Hill County Clerk and Recorders Office, 315 Fourth St., Havre, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

HRDC Fireside Room, 2229 Fifth Ave., Havre, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Hi-Line Community Center, 502 First St., Hingham, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Box Elder School, back entrance, 205 Main St., Box Elder, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Stone Child College, Jon “Cubby” Morsette Vo-Tech Building, 8294 Upper Box Elder Road, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Late registration ended today at noon, but starts again Election Day, Tuesday, with people able to late register at their clerk and recorder’s office and receive and fill out their ballot there.
