Hi-Line Volleyball: Fort Benton caps perfect season in newly formed District 7C

The time is now for all area volleyball teams, as the postseason has officially arrived.

Of course, area teams had one last week of matches before tournament time.

The action started last Tuesday in what was a busy week for the Harlem Wildcats. Harlem had shut down for a couple of weeks due to COVID-19, so upon its return, the Wildcats played several makeup matches.

Tuesday, the Wildcats lost a pair of 2B matches to Glasgow, before returning to beat Poplar twice Friday. Harlem won the first match by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 18-25 and 25-16 with Alaynee Hawley tallying 10 kills, while the Wildcats won the second match by scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-21. Chloe Messerly had nine kills in that win for Harlem.

The Wildcats also played twice Saturday, and they were beaten twice by Wolf Point. Harlem will now get ready for this week's 2B Tournament, which will be played in Malta.

Last week also saw Fort Benton wrap up its regular season, first with a non-conference loss to Choteau Tuesday. The Longhorns fell to the Bulldogs by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-16. Abby Clark and Aspen Giese combined for nine kills in the match.

The Longhorns did bounce back though, closing out their 7C regular season title with a sweep of North Star Friday night. The Horns beat the Knights by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-12 with Abby Clark racking up nine kills and there aces.

The Knights bounced right back Saturday though. In their final match of the season, they beat Geraldine-Highwood in four sets, by scores of 28-26, 23-25, 25-13 and 25-15. Jade Wendland had a big match for North Star with 14 kills and three blocks.

Friday night, Chinook's season also ended with a loss to the Rivals. The Beeters fell by scores of 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 22-25 and 15-13.

Saturday also saw CJI upend Big Sandy by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 26-24. Tatum Hull had 12 kills and seven blocks for the Hawks, while Alicia Bjornstad had four kills and 20 digs for the Pioneers.

In the final 7C standings, Fort Benton finished first at 12-0, followed by Chinook at 93, North Star and Gerladine-Highwood each at 7-4. CJI was fifth at 3-8, followed by Big Sandy, 2-9, Centerville 0-11, Box Elder 0-6 and Hays-Lodge Pole 0-7.

The District 7C Tournament is up next. The tourney will take place both in Big Sandy and Fort Benton Thursday through Saturday.
