Happy retirement Jack Trethewey

Dear Editor,

The fires were hot down Yellowstone way

“We’re headed North” is all Janet did say.

So off to Havre where the wind does blow

Jack agreed to follow and go.

For three long years he played the game

Until an opening at HFD finally came.

At last, every child’s dream come true!

Driving a big red fire engine his due!

What fun Jack’s had for 28 years

A lot of laughs and a few tears.

EMS calls in the dead of night

And a few fire calls that caused a fright.

Dinners interrupted, Christmases too,

The tones go off, what’s there to do?

Two sessions in Helena were lots of work

But befriending Jon Tester was a great perk.

A trip to New York to honor the fallen

The Brotherhood is not a job but a

calling.

Delivered a baby and saw others pass

Life and death in between, 28 years went fast.

“Time to retire” Jack finally said

“I’m getting tired and there’s grey on my head.

I loved being a fireman with all my heart

But Justin’s carrying the torch, doing his part.”

“I’ve had lots of fun, the job’s been great

But a new chapter’s ahead and I can’t wait.”

Moving to Helena, following Janet again,

Back to the mountains is a big win.

“Goodbye Havre and HFD”

Jack gets to say with glee.

“It’s been real, it’s been fun,

28 years and now I’m done.”
