Getting hot in late October is a good thing in high school volleyball. In fact, the timing couldn't be better.
And that's exactly what the Havre Blue Ponies are doing right now.
Tuesday night, the Ponies were back in the Havre High gymnasium, where they won their fifth straight match, as they beat the Malta M-Ettes in a three-game sweep. Havre beat Malta by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-12.
The match was a dominate performance by the Ponies, as well, because they never trailed, and they got off to strong starts in all three sets. The win also showed just how far Havre has come in a month's time. Havre opened the season last month by beating the M-Ettes in Malta, but the Ponies needed a five-set marathon to do it.
Not Tuesday, however, because the Ponies controlled things on both sides of the net from start to finish in a victory that saw the Ponies rack up 26 kills, while also serving an impressive 14 aces. Offensively, Havre spread the wealth, too. Yelena Miller and Talia Ralph each had six kills, while Quinn McDonald and Maddie Columbus added four each. Alyssa Oliver and Columbus also combined for 10 aces, while Ellie Collins tallied 25 assists.
Havre was really good on defense, too. The Ponies had five blocks, with Miller totaling three, and Ralph adding a pair. Sydney Wilting and Oliver were also both in double digits in digs as the Ponies improved to 9-3 on the season.
And Havre will look to keep the streak going Saturday when the Ponies play their final home game, as they host the Sidney Eagles.
