Annual black powder Christmas Turkey Shoot held

The Bullhook Bottoms Black Powder Club held its annual Christmas Turkey Shoot Oct. 11, at the Hill County Sports Shooting Range on River Road northwest of Havre.

Eighteen shooters participated in the afternoon event with six matches, all five shots each, at various distances and positions. Shooting conditions were in the mid-60s with wind and gusty winds all afternoon. The normal fall winds withstanding, it was a pleasant afternoon. The winners of the matches were:

25-yard Pistol: 1st Dick Hanson, Havre, 44; 2nd Tom Brown, Havre, 43; 3rd Pete Huseby, Havre, 38.

25-yard Offhand: 1st Pete Huseby, Havre, 39; 2nd Dick Hanson, Havre, 39; 3rd Cliff Plum, Havre, 38.

50-yard Offhand: 1st Tom Brown, Havre, 46; 2nd Lacey Huseby, Havre, 43x; 3rd Linsey Neidert, Havre, 42.

50-yard Cross Sticks: 1st Cliff Plum, 46xx; 2nd Randy Root, Havre, 46; 3rd Pete Huseby, Havre, 46.

50-yard Cross Sticks: (6-bull target): 1st Cameron Griggs, Havre, 42; 2nd Jim Griggs, Havre 41; 3rd Pete Huseby, Havre, 39.

50-yard Offhand Cartridge: 1st Dick Hanson, Havre, 45x; 2nd Pete Huseby, Havre, 44; 3rd Kendall Griggs, Havre, 41x.

In keeping with the holiday spirit, contestants could win only one turkey for the day. Eighteen places were paid out giving every shooter a turkey this year.

Two sub-juniors were shooting, with Sidney Griggs scoring 30 on a 25-yard cross stick match and Luke Griggs scoring 8.
