Staff and wire report
Hill County Clerk and Recorder’s Office announced that the Hill County satellite voting office on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation will not be open Wednesday, Oct. 14, or Wednesday, Oct. 21, due to the reservation on lockdown.
The satellite voting office is still scheduled to be open Oct. 28 and 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stone Child College in the Foyer of the Kenawash Building at 8294 Upper Box Elder Road
Ballots were mailed to all active registered voters Friday.
Voters may return their ballots by mail in the post paid envelopes or or hand deliver them to the Clerk and Recorder’s Office in the Hill County Courthouse at 315 Fouth St in Havre.
People should not lick their envelopes and are asked to “Pease use a glue stick.”
The ballot that was mailed to people is their official ballot. If anyone would like to vote in-person they are asked to bring the official ballot that was mailed to them, vote at a poll booth and place in the ballot box.
Voters who wish to vote in-person are encouraged to do so before Election Day in order to avoid crowing and lines that can be unsafe under the current pandemic conditions.
If people made a mistake or if their ballot does not arrive, they are asked to contact the Clerk and Recorder’s Office for a replacement ballot.
“We must void the first ballots before we can issue you a replacement,” the Hill County Clerk and Recorder’s office said in a press release.
On Election Day, Nov. 3, voters may drop off their ballot from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at any of the following Hill County places of deposits. These places of deposit will help reduce the number of electors in one area on Election Day.
“Please make sure the ballot is sealed in the signed affirmation envelope, the release said.
The locations are only available to drop off already voted ballots. No ballots will be issued from these locations:
• HRDC Fireside Room, North Entrance, 2229 Fifth Ave, Havre
• Hi-Line Community Center, 502 Fifth Street, Hingham
• Box Elder School — Back Entrance — Elementary School Foyer, 05 Main Street, Box Elder
• Stone Child College, Jon “Cubby” Morsette Vo-Tech Building, 8294 Upper Box Elder Road
People are urged to mail ballots early if they are using the mail or to deliver it to their clerk and recorder’s office by hand.
Montana clerk and recorder’s offices must receive ballots by the close of Election Day, 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, for the ballots to be counted. Ballots postmarked by Nov. 3 but received after Election Day will not be counted.
“If you mail your ballot back, please mail it at least one week before Election Day or hand-deliver your ballot to the Hill County Courthouse at 315 4th Street, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.,” the Hill County Clerk and Recorder’s Office press release said.
“If you wish to vote In-Person after you have received your ballot, bring it to the Elections Office,” the release continued. “You can vote your ballot at a poll booth and drop your ballot in our ballot box.”
