Hi-Line Volleyball: Sugarbeeters sweep; Knights win two

Volleyball is coming to a big part of the season on the Hi-Line, and every match counts. With district tournaments coming soon, last week was a critical one for area teams.

Back on Tuesday, Fort Benton swept Geraldine-Highwood by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-11 in a key District 7C match. Abby Clark had nine kills and two blocks in the win for the Longhorns.

Thursday saw North Star earn a 7C win over Chester-Joplin-Inverness, by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 17-25 and 25-17. The Knights got 15 kills and three blocks from Jade Wendland, while Kenidee Wolery had 35 assists and three aces.

Chinook took care of Big Sandy last Thursday night, as the Sugarbeeters swept the Pioneers by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-15 to remain tough on the season. Delaney Kellam had a big match for Chinook with 12 kills and six blocks. Amiya Griffith had five kills and an ace for the Pioneers.

Also Thursday night, Rocky Boy fell to Shelby by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-13.

Rocky Boy also lost a heartbreaker Saturday night. After two weeks off because of COVID-19 issues, the Great Falls Central Mustangs outlasted the Morning Stars in a five-setter, by scores of 20-25, 25-16, 25-22, 17-25 and 15-9. It was a tough loss for the Morning Stars.

Back in Class C, North Star won another four-set match, beating Cascade Saturday by scores of 18-25, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-18. Shayla Borlaug had 13 kills for the Knights, as did Jade Wendland, who also had 10 digs.

Big Sandy rebounded Saturday night, as the Pioneers beat Dutton-Brady in a non-conference match, by scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-6. Amiya Griffith had a match-high 13 kills for the Pioneers, while Candice Pleninger had seven aces.

Also Saturday, CJI defeated Sunburst in a sweep. The Hawks won by scores of 28-26, 25-15 and 25-5. Chinook also swept Malta in a non-conference match, by scores of 28-26, 25-23 and 25-20.

Box Elder and Hays-Lodge Pole had matches postponed last week due to COVID-19 issues, while Fort Benton's match against Roy-Winifred Saturday was canceled.
