Havre runners dominate Malta Invite

The Havre High cross country teams are busy right now, and that busy stretch started with a successful trip to Malta.

Saturday, the Blue Ponies raced in the MAC Invitational in Malta, where both the HHS boys and girls took home first-place honors.

The Pony boys beat out local rival Rocky Boy for first with a team score of 15. Havre was led by race champion Caleb Tomac, who finished first at 18:13, while Dylan Young came in second at 18:83 and Riley Pleninger was third at 18:55, as the Ponies dominated the meet. Freshman Zack May was fifth (19:18), Kendall Pleninger was sixth (19:33) and Brody Henry was seventh (19:37). Rocky Boy's Joe Demontiney and Kellen Colliflower were also Top 10. Both Pleningers also ran lifetime best times.

On the girls side, Havre dominated the meet top, scoring a 16, well in front of second-place Fairview.

Led by Tamera O’Leary’s first-place run in 24:41, the Ponies swept the top four spots. Sadie Filius was second at 21:42, Hannah Haslem was third at 22:04 and Loy Waid was fourth at 22:47. Maleigha Fuzesy also came in sixth for HHS in 24:09 and Chloe Shennum was eighth at 24:54.

The Ponies return to action Tuesday at the Billings Central Invite, while the HHS JV squads race at the Box Elder Invitational at Beaver Creek Golf Course.

“Really, the team ran well,” HHS head coach Kari Filus said. “We have a quick turnaround and will compete in Billings, at the Billings Central invitational, Tuesday. It will be a good test with Eastern A teams.”
