Pony netters look for revenge on homecoming

Havre High volleyball team travels to Lewistown tonight, hosts Miles City in a rematch Saturday

After another split weekend for the Havre High volleyball team, the Blue Ponies are looking to find some more wins, especially in the Northeastern A. This weekend will give Havre that chance, as there are some Northeastern A battles ahead on the road.

Starting with long-time rival, the Lewistown Golden Eagles, tonight at 7 p.m. the Ponies will travel down to Lewistown for the team's first meeting of the 2020 season, which will be followed up by a rematch against the Miles City Cowgirls in Havre.

Havre head coach Steph Huse is looking forward to the rivalry battle against the Golden Eagles.

"It's always fun to go play Lewistown," Huse said. "It's going to be another competitive match and a tough one since we're on the road again. But I feel good about where the girls are after the finish of our last match, so we're going to take that steam that we have and put it to use going into Lewistown on Thursday."

The Blue Pony spikers will look to give it their all this weekend. Seniors Talia Ralph, Sydney Wilting, Kennedy Hampton, Samantha Lovenguth, Ellie Collins, Kaylee Torgerson and Quinn McDonald will all look to work alongside teammates like Yelena Miller, Avery Carlson, Molly Huse, Maddie Columbus and Alyssa Oliver to pull in some wins over the upcoming weekend.

Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles will be ready for Havre to bring its A-game. Lewistown has put up plenty of strong feats against the Ponies throughout the years and 2020 will be no different, as 2020 has proven that the Northeastern A will be a constant battle for the top.

The rematch against the Cowgirls will be a match that includes looking back at the previous game last weekend.

"Looking at that match again, a lot of why we lost that match was on us," Huse said. "If we clean up our service and defense, compared to what we did in that match, we will be a lot better off. I think those will be the big keys when going to play Miles City on Saturday."

Falling to the Cowgirls last weekend was tough for the Ponies, but there will be a chance to right the wrongs made previously and pick up a conference win. There were some struggles on the court on the road before, but after the match against Shelby, Havre will be bringing a lot of energy to the court in Miles City.

At the end of the day, the Northeastern A has been an exciting atmosphere for Huse in her first year as Havre's head coach.

"The biggest takeaway is how competitive our conference is," Huse said. "All the teams are pretty much on the same plain as each other. There's no real drop-off going from one team to the next. Everybody is really competitive and has their weapons, so you know night in and night out when you hit the floor for a conference match, it's going to be a fun match."

It is another Northeastern A-filled weekend for the Havre Blue Ponies (3-2), with the Lewistown Golden Eagles waiting for them in Lewistown tonight, followed by the rematch against the Miles City Cowgirls Saturday in the HHS gymnasium as Havre High celebrates homecoming.
