MSU-Northern harriers off and running

There was no better way for the Montana State University-Northern men's and women's cross country teams to open the season than to do it on their home course.

Since its beginnings, the Northern teams have had a home meet only every other year, but this fall, Northern will host two meets, starting with the Frontier Conference Preview Meet Friday afternoon at Prairie Farms Golf Course.

And it was a great start for both Northern teams, of head coach Chad Spangler. The Lights finished in fourth place as a team led by Field Soosloff's third-place finish in the men's race. He came across the line in 27:11.90 to lead the Northern men. Dan Kirwa took 17th place with a time of 29:15:.50. Liam Baez-Terry passed the finish line in 22 place and right behind him was Kai Krumwiede in 23th.

On the women's side, Allison Tigert led the Skylights, as she crossed the finish line in eighth place with a time of 19:56.90. Kaylee Nystrom crossed the line in 21th place with a time of 22:05:.8. Grace Schwenk ran a time of 23:17.7 crossing the finish line in 28th place.

Next up, the Northern teams will head to Helena for the Frontier Conference Rumble Sept. 24. The Lights and Skylights also host this year's Frontier Conference Championships in November.
