Fatal crash kills one in Blaine County

A Chinook man died at the scene of a fatal crash on Redrock Road in Blaine County at 10:10 p.m. Saturday.

Blaine County Coroner John Colby said the deceased is Payton Jones, 19, of Chinook.

Montana Highway Patrol reports that the car, traveling westbound, left the road, drifting off the right shoulder into the ditch, after which it rolled one-and-a-half times, coming to rest on its top perpendicular to the road.

Jones, the right-front passenger, was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene. Two other men from Chinook, a male 17-year-old and a 21-year-old man, both also from Chinook, sustained no injuries, Highway Patrol reports.

Alcohol and speed are suspected as factors in the crash and the deceased is suspected to have not been wearing a seat belt. It is unknown if the other two men involved were wearing seat belts, Highway Patrol reports.
