Fans of Havre High have to wait one more week for Blue Pony football. But, that doesn't mean the Hi-Line will be quiet this weekend.
That's because there's some big Class C games, in what is the second week of the season. Remember, most Class C teams, and most teams in Montana for that matter, are playing conference-only schedules this fall because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The action this weekend starts in the Northern C with Chinook taking on Shelby tonight at Hoon Field. It's the home-opener for the Sugarbeeters, who are off to a rousing 1-0 start. The Coyotes, who are in their second year of 8-man football, will be tough, though, and it should be an excellent early Northern C battle.
Another good Northern game tonight will be in Cascade where the Badgers host Fort Benton. The Longhorns are ranked No. 1 in the Treasure State 8-Man Media Poll this week, while the Badgers are one of three Northern C squads who received votes in the poll. In other Northern C action, Chester-Joplin-Inverness hosts Hays-Lodge Pole in what is the season debut for both squads.
In the Six-Man ranks, the Hi-Line has another top-ranked team playing a big game this week. Big Sandy sits at No. 1 in the Treasure State Six-Man Poll, with a 1-0 record, and the Pioneers will take to the road Saturday for a game against arch rival North Star in Rudyard. The Knights are a young team this season, and it will be an uphill battle against the Pioneers, but it's always a big game when the two rivals hook up.
Meanwhile, down the road in Box Elder, the Bears are set to make their season debut when they take on the Power-Dutton-Brady Titans, who are 1-0 on the season. Box Elder, in its second year under veteran coach Jake Eldridge, has an experienced roster, led by Kadyn Duran at quarterback.
While previewing this week, the Havre Daily News would also like to take the time to remind coaches and athletic directors to please email box scores as soon as games are over, but no later than Sunday so that we can make sure your results will be published in our weekly Hi-Line Football Roundup. All results can be sent to [email protected] or faxed to 406-265-6798.
