News you can use
The coronavirus has changed just about everything we all do, in one way or another. And one thing it's going to drastically change for me is, how much time I spend in Missoula this fall.
In fact, because Griz football season is canceled, I won't be spending any time in Missoula this fall, and that means no hanging out at my good buddy Brett Gilman's tailgate before games.
Now I know you all remember Brett, because his name has graced this column many, many times over the years. Brett was the superintendent once upon a time at Beaver Creek Golf Course before moving over to Prairie Farms Golf Course until he moved to Missoula a couple years ago.
I've e known Brett for a long time. And golf was how we met. And golf has always been a big part of our friendship, but since he moved we haven't golfed together, that is until last Saturday. Amy and I made a quick trip to Missoula, since we won't be going to any Griz games, and not only was I able to catch up with my good buddy, who was also once the Blue Pony head golf coach. I was able to do it playing some golf with him at the famed Missoula Country Club.
And, since this is a golf report, let me just report, Gilly can still hack it on a golf course. He doesn't play nearly as much as he used too, and he doesn't swing even close to as hard as he once did, but, he's still got a lot of game.
Of course, the point of this wasn't to tell you all about Brett's golf game. More so, the point is, during this crazy coronavirus world, golf has been something we have been able to safely still enjoy. Golf has been something that safely still brings us together, and it did so this last weekend.
So, it would good seeing you again Brett. It had been along time since we played golf together, and it was a blast.
Now, back to Havre golf. There won't be many columns left in general, and even fewer with results, but, there's still some league golf to finish up.
At BCGC, the men's league semifinals were held last week with Grip it N Sip Its beating RJ Wheat and Parisian LLC topping New Concept Lawn. The two will meet in the championship match Thursday night.
The ladies also finished up their season last Thursday night at Prairie Farms. They decided not to have a playoff this season, so, in the final standings, DA Davidson scored 219 points to finish in first place. Independence Bank was second, followed by Rock Solid and Double R.
On the final night of the season, Ali Ward was low gross with a 43, while Kelsie Briese was low net with a 33. Independence Bank was high team with 23 points. Teresa Brown, Julie Mariani, Maxine Munson and Terry Lilletvedt composed the squad.
Congrats ladies on your season.
Lastly, the Prairie Farms Women's Club Championship was held last Sunday at Prairie Farms, where Sarah Spangler shot the low round to be named the 2020 Women's Club Champion. Congrats Sarah, and congrats to everyone who teed it up Sunday. I heard it was a tough day out there.
