From the Courts - State District Court: Man sentenced to 20 years plus probation on statutory rape; 10 years plus probation on assault charge

Kristopher Alan Chapman was sentenced in state District Court in Havre to 20 years in prison on a statutory rape charge and 10 years for violating conditions of his release for hitting a woman with a baseball bat, with additional probation in both cases

Chapman pleaded guilty to the rape charges and admitted violating conditions of his release in the assault charge in hearings June 24.

Chapman was charged Jan. 23 with multiple counts of sexual intercourse without consent and sexual abuse of children and with a charge of indecent exposure after he was accused of having sex with and filming a pre-high school-aged girl.

He pleaded guilty before Judge Kaydee Snipes Ruiz June 24 to one count of sexual intercourse without consent.

Before Judge David Cybulski June 24, Chapman admitted to violating the conditions of his release in a six-year deferred imposition of sentence imposed by Judge Dan Boucher in May 2016.

Cybulski took jurisdiction in the case when Boucher retired.

In that case, Chapman pleaded guilty in a plea agreement to a felony count of assault with a weapon in a case filed after a woman said he struck her in the head with a baseball bat and choked her Aug. 15, 2015.

Wednesday, Snipes Ruiz sentenced Chapman to 30 years with 10 suspended, ordered him designated a Level 2 sex offender and ordered him to pay $20,793.44 plus fees in restitution, to run at the same time as any other sentences.

Snipes Ruiz ordered that Chapman would not be eligible for parole for 15 years.

Cybulski Wednesday revoked the deferred imposition in the assault case and sentenced him to 20 years with 15 suspended and credited 1,273 days street time against the suspended sentence and credited him with 260 days served.
