Local Golf Report: Champions crowned at Prairie Farms

From Tee to Green

The golf season, at least recreational, is sadly starting to wind down. But that also means there's a lot going on, and, for the second week in a row, I have a lot to get to in this column.

First and foremost, as the head coach of the Havre High golf teams, I want to personally thank everyone at both Prairie Farms and Beaver Creek Golf Courses for allowing us to put on the 2020 Havre Invitational. Thank you for allowing us the use of your courses, thank you for having both of them in such phenomenal shape, and thank you for helping us conduct the first Havre High sporting event to be held in Havre, in what seems like, a long, long time. I and our kids great appreciate you.

Now, on to more winners, and more golf results.

We'll start with the most recent of two champions. Sunday at Prairie Farms, the Men's Club Championship was held on a hot but beautiful day in which the course, once again, played extremely difficult. And on that note, congrats to my good buddy, teammate, friend and cousin Kyle Miller for winning the club championship in a sudden death playoff. Miller, Jim Kato and Jeff Jensen all shot rounds of 73, and Miller made par on the first sudden death playoff hole to claim the title of men's club champion. I played with Kyle all day, and I can tell you, he played a great round and was deserving of the championship.

Other victors in what was a great tournament were, Dr. Tom Adams, who netted a 70 to win overall net. Flight winners were, Jeff Jensen first gross, Kyle Sheppard second gross, Kato first net and Levi Olson second net in the first flight. Kelly Benson was first gross, while I was second gross in the second flight, and Doug Sheppard was first net and Buzz Pizzini second net. Another in my grouping, Scott Miller, was first gross and Barry Kato was second gross in the third flight, while Hoover Peterson was first net and another of my partners, Patch Wirtzberger was second net. In the fourth flight, Eric Wilting was first gross, Greg Baltrusch was second, Darrin Boss was first net and Greg Mosness was second net.

Thanks to everyone who played, everyone who helped organize the tourney, and to everyone in the Prairie Farms Men's League who helped contribute to the pot this year.

Speaking of men's league, that wrapped up Friday night with the final round of the 2020 playoffs. It was heartbreak for my team, Korb Construction, while it was a great night for Master Sports, who won 37-35 to claim the 2020 men's league championship. This year, Master Sports was composed of Jim Kirkpatrick, Doug and Dave Sheppard, Barry Kato and Wayne Bolken. Korb was made up of Kyle Miller, Scott Miller, Mike Erickson, Mike Kellam, Mason Sheppard and myself. Korb had beaten HUB Insurance Tuesday night to reach the chipper, while Master Sports took down Tire Rama in the other semifinal Tuesday night.

So that wraps up men's action at Prairie Farms. Congrats to Master Sports on a great season, and championship, and thanks to everyone who made it a great year of men's league, despite the weirdness of the times.

Though the men's league is over at Prairie Farms, playoffs aren't. The ladies are in the midst of their playoffs at Prairie Farms, while they will also host the Women's Club Championship this weekend. Playoffs also roll on in men's league at BCGC this week.

At Beaver Creek last Thursday, Parisian LLC defeated Chvilicek Farms, Grip It n Sip It tied BCGC, New Concept Lawn beat Nalivka's and RJ Wheat beat Gram's Ice Cream. In Thursday's semifinals, Parisian plays New Concept and the winner of Grip It n Sip It and BCGC will take on RJ Wheat.
