News you can use
Dear Northern fans,
For years, I have envisioned Game Day on Northern’s campus: All of us together, enjoying the crisp fall weather and cheering for the Northern Lights. I have been watching our new football field’s progress for the last six months, looking forward to the day when I would look out my window and see the team practicing on it. This week, the turf will be finished, and over the next month we will put the final touches on the landscaping.
By October, we will be game ready — but the games will have to wait.
The decision to postpone both our football and volleyball seasons until spring was not an easy one. The Frontier conference has worked diligently all summer — the Council of Presidents, athletic directors, coaches, athletic trainers — to develop plans that would keep our teams safe and healthy so we could have a fall season. We are all disappointed and frustrated that despite our best efforts to “flatten the curve,” the virus continues to spread across Montana, and in the communities where our conference teams would play.
That said, we have never wavered from our commitment to safety. All of us in the Frontier Conference value our student athletes, coaching staff, and you, our fans, too much to put anyone at undue risk of contracting the COVID-19 virus. We hope you will join the MSU-Northern staff and faculty in supporting our students through this challenging year, and we look forward to the day when we can all gather together and cheer on the Lights and Skylights.
Be Safe Northern,
Chancellor Greg Kegel
