Letter to the Editor - Polling places raise concerns

Editor,

I have some concerns if Hill County is forced to have polling places open for in person voting. I am sure that this responsibility of the clerk and recorder to solve these problems. I talked to a friend who has been a polling place worker and declined this year because of medical issues.

Finding workers to staff the polls might be difficult. Training takes about one hour. In a group setting. The actual Election Day commitment is about 12 hours, also in a group setting. They would have to make contact with the voters, handling ID, etc.

Most of the workers are senior citizens who should not be in those situations.

Then there is the issue of locations for polling places. Many of those polling sites are schools or other public places.. Do schools want people in their buildings, even if students are not in the building, and have to deep clean after Election Day?

We really need to rethink mail-in balloting.
